It’s half term, the Teenager is needing attention, so we’re off to London for a bit of an adventure, which means that Moss is going to the workshop with Harry Husband.  At the workshop there’s a dog named Fen, he’s a young male Lurcher.

Moss and Fen have been out running together.

Moss is a pure Border Collie, she naturally wants to herd and control movement.  Fen is possibly a Saluki/Greyhound/Boxer/Staffy cross, which makes him a classic Lurcher, a bit of this and that, but definitely a sighthound cross.  Lurchers were originally bred in England to assist poachers to hunt rabbits and hares, they are not a breed as such, but a cross breed.

Fen wants to run fast and be chased.

Although they are different types, they are both athletic in different ways.  Moss’s main motivation is to control movement, she stalks, jinks and runs, whereas Fen’s natural instinct is to chase and be chased.

This is a marriage made in heaven.

They’ve developed a way of playing that really works for both of them, it’s based on their different, yet natural instincts.  Harry Husband has made a film of it so that I can see too.

They are both young dogs, there’s plenty of space in the field and no other dogs about, they can absolutely do their own thing.

So, whilst the Teenager and I are being fleeced in London, Moss and Fen are having great half term, thank you very much!
