Embracing the cold

We had a good autumn. I invested in a long orange skirt as a visual celebration of the season, and then I couldn't think of anything else I wanted to wear. I've recently been converted to autumn; encouraged by my sister-in-law whose birthday is on 1st October - making her an autumn expert.
Advent: fine.
Christmas: interesting.
January: full of promise.
February: omg it's tough!
I know I'm not alone in finding winters hard, and feeling that my energy levels are dropping.
Moss is an enthusiast and a great help with the challenge. I find the routine of walking with her every day vital to my survival.
And once a week I take a plunge into our beloved River Colne.
I’m not hardcore in the least; I wear a wetsuit, booties, gloves and a hat.
It’s still damn cold.
I go in sometimes feeling overwhelmed or anxious, and when I get out, I feel mentally and physically different.
A rebirth.
The recovery is key, I have a pot of tea waiting for me and a warm shower.
Having taken the plunge, there’s no stopping me - I feel invincible!
Moss loves to accompany us; not swimming yet, but as an attentive spectator. She doesn’t take her eyes off me. She doesn’t tell me I’m mad or point out the risks from pollution.
She just watches me with a dear dog’s devotion.
Once in a while we all like to feel special.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
