It’s Easter, we’re off south for a family away weekend.  Harry Husband is driving, The Teenager is listening to music and Moss is in her crate in the back of the van.  Happily, the mood in the van is pretty mellow.  I’m amusing myself by looking out of the window and this is what I see.

We pass through a Sussex village, on the left-hand side I spot a teenager leading a dog, she looks bored.   She’s tall, she’s wearing turned up jeans, funky boots and a cropped jacket, she’s got quite a look about her.  The dog, by contrast, looks uncomfortable, it’s leaning away from the girl.  Something tells me that this girl doesn’t normally take this dog for a walk.  I wonder what this bored teenager is actually up to.

We drive onwards, the road curves through some rather beautiful wooded countryside.

Shortly we approach another village, I see more dog walkers.  This time it’s a young boy and girl with a tiny dog.

As we flash past I take a good look at this little group.  The girl is rather pretty, but the boy and girl look awkward together.  He’s much taller than her, and in my imagination he looks confused, while the girl is smiling, she looks happy as though something, (and of course we’ll never know what) has amused her.  The dog with the “couple” is so small I barely get a chance to even see it.

These two scenes remind me of something I once overheard at a party,

“If you want to find yourself a boyfriend, get a dog or an open topped car.”

Photo:  Dogs in an opened topped car, surely a winner.
