Doing God's work

Today, as we stroll down the river, Moss is darting around on the riverbank, when she finds something she's never found before. Our river is tidal, so things come in on the tides daily; some of them are revolting and some of them, like driftwood, can be rather beautiful - this is a first.
Normally we walk in the woods and the first thing she does is, she runs off into the undergrowth and invariably finds something, often a tree guard or a plastic bottle.
Moss then carries whatever she’s found until I find a suitable bin, then I take her finding and pop it into the bin and she gets a reward. It’s a win-win situation … litter picking and a happy dog.
I’m quite surprised by what she’s found today.
As we walk along the path beside the river, we meet a trendy young couple, who are enthusiastic about seeing a dog and entertained by what she’s carrying. The trendy young woman immediately says:
“Look, she’s doing God's work!”
Well, she's certainly having fun, and it gives purpose to her walks. Whether it's God's work or not, I don't know, but there’s a degree of charm to her purposefulness.
And it’s definitely the first time she’s found a hot water bottle.
