It's not just the time we have with our dogs that counts, it's also the memories they leave with us.
It's not just the time we have with our dogs that counts, it's also the memories they leave with us.

This morning, as I make Harry Husband's smoothie, I’m listening to Radio 3 - Tom McKinney's breakfast programme. He is talking about music and dancing, and for some reason it triggers this memory.

Some years ago we had Wavey; a Collie cross Labrador with a black patch over one eye and bucket loads of personality.

Back in those days we used to have parties and a friend of ours, Milton, used to DJ for us.   Milton’s speciality was world music, and he was brilliant at getting people dancing and keeping them dancing.

It was fun.

Wavey enjoyed a party, just like Moss - they are both people orientated dogs.

Wavey had obviously been watching people dancing, and she was kind of getting into it; when, all of a sudden, she bounded across the dance floor, from one side to the other.

Then she did it again, and again.

Then she started to kind of skip across the dance floor; just really enjoying being on the dance floor with everyone.

Of course we encouraged her.

In the end she kinda skipped and wiggled around on the dance floor – which is more or less what everybody else was doing.

It was incredibly endearing.

As I whizz up the vegetables, fruit and herbs, and all the good things that make a smoothie, it occurs to me that it’s not just the time we have with our dogs that counts, it’s also the memories they leave with us.
