Obstacles - just walking the dog turns three ...

You know that you are onto something worthwhile when the obstacles keep on coming.  On Tuesday 23^rd June just walking the dog turned three.  That’s the date when the website was launched and I created my first ever post. 

It was a huge deal for me.   

I knew that I wanted to say something about dogs, but I wasn’t quite sure where it was going.  I was aware that the dog/human relationship is a significant one. 

Over the three years I’ve had the opportunity to think about it. 

Now I’m at the stage when I’m thinking – wow this is really interesting.

I’ve got myself a great subject.

On Tuesday when I wanted us to celebrate, in our own special way, the obstacles kept on coming.

First we had a very senior gate crasher, who was intent on piling into our gathering.   He had to be politely, but firmly, refused entrance on a couple of occasions.  Then we upset our neighbours by playing live music too loud and keeping the kids awake on a school night. 

My mistake - apologies.  

And then we had some good old fashioned inhouse argy-bargy!

Awkward, yes.  

More apologies had been made. 

It set me to thinking.

We really do have something to celebrate.  

Three years of exploring the relationship between humans and dogs is an achievement.  Yet, I feel as though now I’m only just beginning to scratch at the surface.

We had a splendid party though I say it myself. 

I gave a short speech.  I read a poem – The Border Collie by Martin Newell, and I read a piece I’d written called Miss Brown Eyes.  

Making a speech in front of an audience was another huge deal for me.

We had live music by Harry Lawrence and Martin Newell. 

So, what I’m learning from jwtd – is this; if you are doing something worthwhile, sure as damnit there’ll be obstacles. 

Probably the biggest obstacles are those in your own head.

My thanks to all of you who have supported, encouraged and inspired me over the years. 

I’m onto it!
