As we walk across the yard when I collect Moss from her dog care, she hangs back, then she stops, and stands.  She’d clearly rather stay with Jim and Rook than come home with me.  Whilst this is less than flattering for me, it’s also rather fantastic.

We’ve found the right place for her to stay when we go away, phew.

We are still new to formal dog care.  I’ve never even set foot in a kennels, and rather dread the thought of it.  Moss has been staying with Jim, a dog behaviourist and his therapy dog Rook.

As a complex young collie, she needs to keep on learning her social skills, and learning from other dogs is the most effective way of doing it.  Rook has experience, he’s a therapy dog, and an ex-security dog, he’s got quite a career behind him.

When I leave Moss there, I don’t worry about her in the least. I know that she’ll be treated with kindness and respect, in addition she’ll learn.  I look on her stay with Jim as a bit like her joining a Steiner school for a weekend.  She’s blooming lucky.

With the school holidays approaching, quality dog care is a real issue.  Since Moss is both sensitive and intense, I couldn’t bear to think of her being misunderstood.  Happily, Jim knows way more about dogs than I do, he also takes the time to teach me some new skills.

We’ve certainly gone up a notch or two finding Jim, it’s a good feeling dropping Moss off in the full knowledge that she’ll be fine.

The challenge that remains is how we earn enough money to be able to pay for this level of care and understanding.
