... and after a walk, a snooze - naturally.

There’s something rather reassuring about a mid-week walk in the woods where we come across the regulars.

There’s Chris with his gorgeous little Heeler George who is often rootling about in the undergrowth in pursuit of squirrels.  George is a short legged little fellow and well nourished, so the squirrels have little to fear.  His enthusiasm for rootling is delightful and completely absorbs him.  Chris leans on his stick and watches his little buddy pottering about having a great time.   He knows that whatever pops out of the undergrowth George will come back to his master with his tail wagging and a smile on his face.

And then there is Dorothy with her granddaughter’s dog Chester, another little chap, and extremely keen on the ladies.  He has a particular way of snuffling and kicking up the earth behind him when he smells a lady dog.   Chester never fails to fancy his chances with Moss and flirts with her outrageously.

Both Chris and Dorothy are unassuming and modest.  We know our dog’s shortcomings.  They both accept that Moss has the intensity of a Border Collie, and also a heart of gold.  There’s no pretence or disapproving looks as our dogs do their thing - chasing – snortling - jumping up and planting muddy prints.

I guess what I’m saying is that I love the acceptance I sense from them.  Surely, it’s good for all of us, humans and dogs alike.
