Just walking the dog turns two

It was so warm on Tuesday evening, that I sat on a bench beside the river, with my friend Terry, and his dog Ruby. I was letting off steam after a fretful day, and Terry was doing his very best to listen. Along hobbled Peter with his sensitive Doodle Delia, a little further off I could hear a Jack Russell venting its frustration on a laidback Retriever.
We are a nation of dog lovers, there’s no denying it. I guess that’s what inspired me to start writing just walking the dog, which turned two years old on Monday 23rd June.
It’s been two years, 78 articles published, and all those walks done.
In June 2023 I set out to write 2-300 words each week inspired by walking with Moss, our high voltage Collie dog. During that time, she’s turned from wacky puppy, through a turbulent adolescence, into a three-year-old who loves people beyond measure.
Her favourite person in all the world is Richard our Postman.
Writing Just walking the dog offers me the perfect opportunity to think about the relationship between humans and dogs. It’s made me realise how deeply dogs are sewn into the fabric of humanity.
This summer, Moss and I will be hitting the road, as we go on a pilgrimage together. Just me, my dog and my little blue car. Goodness knows what we’ll discover, hopefully more stories to share with you.
With love & blessings from,
Alison & Moss
