Moss confident with teenagers
Moss confident with teenagers

Last weekend, the Teenager had an early Halloween party.  We had about thirty 16 and 17-year-olds at home for the evening.  I had no idea what to expect.  As I cooked chips for the masses, I found myself wondering; do dogs dance …?

I wasn’t at all sure how Moss would react to a swarm of teenagers in our home; with the noise, the chaos and the erratic behaviour.  I thought perhaps, I should have to have her on a lead; to make sure that she was safe.

Not a bit of it!  She found her role immediately; which was meeting and greeting.  We could tell when new guests were arriving, because Moss stood by the door wagging her tail and wiggling - not barking!

She was delighted by all the guests.

At one stage the party did kick off a bit; a combination of wannabe gate crashers and two befuddled boys, clumsily trying to sort out their love lives.  Moss took herself off to her crate, her safe place, until it calmed down - very wise.

When I realised that she was entirely fine, I stopped worrying about her.

She pottered about the party, confident but not too intense.  Occasionally she hopped up onto the sofa and snuggled up; she was both calm and affectionate.

The Teenager spotted Moss entertaining herself by rolling her tennis ball down a girl’s cleavage …  not once but three times!

The next morning when I woke up, I realised that one of Moss’s skills is being around teenagers.  I just hadn’t realised it before.

As to the question; do dogs dance?  Yes, I think they do … in their own particular way.
