Only four Collies, but you get my drift.
Only four Collies, but you get my drift.

Once in a while it’s good to get something right!

This summer Moss and I went on a pilgrimage.  I have to say it was one of the best things I’ve done in decades; just me, Moss and my little blue car.  Freedom.

I wanted to take her back to the farm in Devon where she was born.  It’s a long old stretch from East Anglia to Devon, but so worth it.

We were lucky enough to stay in the farmhouse where Moss was born.

As I opened the door in the mornings, she shot out into the farmyard to play with the other Collies; her Mum, Dad and brothers.  It was endless games of herding practice, stalking and pure Collie behaviour.

Moss was so happy to be amongst her type again.

One night Moss woke me up, her brown eyes smiling at me with joy. She was like a child at Christmas time, saying “Is it really true, are we really here?”  We got up and took a moonlit stroll around the farmyard, so that she could double check.  And why not?  It’s a privilege to see such joy in a dog.

I love it that she can express her feelings so clearly.

What a delight for me to watch the dance of the seven Collies; all a bit OCD, all a bit bonkers, and so very Collie.
