A brown dog named Haddock

Last Saturday it was hot, so Moss and I decided to dart into the woods for some shade and coolness, as we did so we met Haddock and her owners as they crossed the car park beside the train station.

It suddenly occurred to me what a huge service they did by naming Haddock Haddock.  I felt myself smile as I said “Hello Haddock.”

Haddock seems to be a straightforward dog.  (I’ve just discovered she’s a lady dog, I thought she was a gentleman, but what does that matter?)  She’s easy going with humans and dogs alike.

Imagine what a service she’s doing to humanity just by having such a wonderful name.  As I saw her, I felt myself smile and my shoulders relax.

Fantastic!

I have a glorious image of Haddock spreading the love wherever she goes, as people smile and laugh a little when they hear her name.

Personally, I think names are significant and offer us an opportunity to be expressive.  They can be traditional; Ben the Black Lab, Harry the Jack Russell, Moss the Border Collie …  but Haddock the Cockerpoo that, my friends, is pure gold!

I don’t know the story behind Haddock’s name, possibly I’ll discover it one day, could it be a child’s choice?

In the meantime, to Mama & Papa Haddock thank you, I think your choice is tremendous!
