There’s a piece of me that wanted to write about the fact that it’s cold, wet and windy – oh the injustice of it.   Then Moss and I did our regular walk through the woods and despite my low mood, I couldn’t help but notice that there are buds everywhere.

It’s been a long winter, hasn’t it?  And in my opinion, it’s March that can be the cruellest month.  My late Mother-in-law, who was Icelandic, always maintained that we shouldn’t take the weather personally, yet sometimes I find myself doing exactly that.

As we walk, I think about the fact that Moss is growing up and maturing.  When I swept the kitchen floor this morning, I didn’t have to do battle with her over ownership of the broom.  I think she’s got it!  It’s mine, not hers to chase.  Before, as I got it out she would fix her gaze on it and chase it around the kitchen, which meant that I had to put her into her crate or make her sit on the doormat.

I think (fingers crossed) I can say that phase is behind us now.

It’s so like having a child, I remember when The Teenager crossed the road on her own for the first time, my heart was in my mouth.  Now she goes into town with a friend on public transport and it’s okay – I’m okay.

We’ve still got a long way to go with Moss, she’s still reactive with other dogs, and does the infamous Collie stare, which I assume she’ll always do.  But with Captain Calm’s help and the acknowledgement that we do need help, I’m sure that we can keep on moving forward with her.  Life evolves and changes, and that’s exciting, isn’t it?

And yes, Spring is on its way.

Amid the foliage and buds is little Moss.
