We're going to be grandparents!

According to an Irish tradition, St Patrick's day, 17th March, is the day when birds start building their nests.

I'm so excited.  We're going to be grandparents!  There's a robin building her nest in our woodshed.

She's so busy! Is this a husband and wife team, or is this a lone project? I don't know yet, I’ll have to ask Glyn my birding friend. 

As we prepare breakfast in the morning, the robin is so motivated and energetic, gathering, building materials for her nest, it's really inspiring.

It's almost as though she wants to show us what she's doing. The comings and goings, beak full of leaves and little sticks.  She's having a wonderful time planning for the future. 

And we are enjoying watching this delightful process.

They’ve chosen to build on a shelf in the woodshed, behind a reel of garden twine.  It’s very Beatrix Potter.

And so perfectly springtime!

What, you might ask, has this got to do with walking the dog?

Well, Moss has a role in all this; her job is to keep the cats out of our yard, so that Mr and Mrs Robin can get on with preparing for family life.

And she has generously donated some of her fur to their home building project. 

When I groomed her at the weekend, (she’s moulting like crazy at the moment) I saved some of the fluff and jammed it between some bricks, in the hope that Mr & Mrs Robin would notice it and use it to line their nest.

So Moss is also providing their soft furnishings.
