No weather at all

Today it’s neither warm nor cold, it’s not windy nor sunny, it’s not even cloudy! A day with no weather at all. And it’s rather lovely. As we walk through the woods there is very little sound except for the Caw Caw of the Rooks overhead and maybe, if I’m lucky, I might hear the mewing of Buzzards as they circle in the thermals above the woods …
It’s a beautiful sound, but not today.
Today all I can hear is Moss thundering about in the undergrowth; she’s in a really positive mood. She’s incredibly good at entertaining herself. And today she’s quite calm, which is lovely.
It’s just her and me and no weather at all.
Under my feet the acorns are thick on the ground.
In the quiet, all of a sudden, I hear a Jenny Wren in the branches above my head. It’s so very small but so loud and insistent … it sounds as though it’s calling out, “I’m here, listen to me!”
I stop, listen and move on.
In the quiet, with no weather, no people, no other dogs, it’s lovely to be able to focus my attention on what’s already here; just getting on with it.
