Enjoying Advent

Today, as Moss and I walk beside the river, I was wondering to myself, why it is that I enjoy Advent so much. I find it far more fun than Christmas itself, to be honest.
Then I realised that what I actually enjoy is the preparations. This year I’ve made two advent calendars, for my step sons. They are not quite ready yet, but I’m really enjoying making them.
It’s the doing that makes me feel happy and content.
My next project is to make our Christmas cards and write our round robin - without being too patronising or pretending that our lives are in any way perfect.
There’s the challenge!
It’s the making; the planning; the cooking; even the wrapping that makes me feel good.
As Moss darts about in the pasture beside the river, with her nose to the ground sniffing, she’s entirely in the moment. She’s not wondering if I’ll remember to feed her when we get home.
She’s as happy as Larry doing her own thing.
This year I’m determined to enjoy the process and be more in the here and now; just like Moss.
If I start sniffing the ground like her, that might be a little odd though!
